the lake with endless perspectives
I titled this piece The Lake of Endless Perspectives because it seems to hold unbelievably stunning views and also has awful, smelly areas that don't permit the random visitor to enjoy value.
Jabi Lake is Abuja's first man-made lake. According to the FCTA website, the lake was created to serve as a reservoir for the residents of Abuja. I do not remember the early 2000s so well, but I recall the lake was on our way home to Lugbe in 2003/04. During the reign of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, and the then FCT Administration, Abuja experienced some changes and expansion. It wasn't much of. a sight then, but it's evolved into a lovely sight.
It is interesting how multipurpose the park gets on its busy days. Sometimes one side is filled with people playing all sorts of sports and engaging in fitness activities, on the other, you're met with different groups, having picnics, out for horse riding or simply enjoying the open air. Sadly, most parts of the park are littered with dirt, that quickly defaces the lake and the park.
I still believe so much can be done to make it more habitable and recreational, but as with many things in Nigeria, the bureaucracy is a lot. There aren't many suggestion boxes to pass information, neither are the local chairmen/councillors easy to approach.
I have taken a lot of photos around Jabi Lake Park and not only do I see the beauty in it, but I am always struck by the obvious potential, it may never meet.
Everyone who has visited Jabi Lake Park will share a little of my sentiments being that the park represents in some way, Nigeria. With so much potential, the beauty is always defaced by the lack of attention to the park, and even the experience b=people can get enjoy.
Nonetheless, I have chosen to enjoy the beautiful nature of Jabi Lake Park and this picture tells the tale.
